You know if I had to deal with cold like that for long periods, I probably wouldn’t do well since I’m not used to it. BUT, I really wish we had a more defined winter here in MS. Last winter never really happened and we’re on course for the same this winter. Lots of rain but a horrible lack of cold temps. Some of our January’s get down to teens and single digits but it doesn’t last long.

Mild Winter sounds good to me. I hate winter. Especially snow!!

7 out of 8. I gave the 6 on the left plus one from yesterday to a broody. I had to kick the other broody out of a nest to get to the eggs though. View attachment 2471712

5 out of 6 current layers. One is still on strike after going broody. 3 more of the 11 pullets are squatting, so expect more soon!

That one’s from a cuckoo marans. She’s a pretty new layer, which is why her eggs are still small.

I feel where you’re coming from. I don’t just enjoy the cold but I do enjoy what I can do when the cold comes. I love to hunt. I’m on a deer stand right now. I’d much rather bundle up for cold than be swatting mosquitoes. I did get my wish somewhat. It got down to 35F last night and is currently about 47F.

6 out of 8 today! The snow that the weather forecast promised turned out to be rain, so most of the chickens were hiding all day.

5 today. I spent some time in the coop and run cleaning up today and got a positive ID on one of my new layers that I had suspected. Squeaky the BO is popping out little brown eggs. All my young girls but one are over 6 months now so I guess they’re not really pullets anymore.

0 eggs out of 9 chickens for some reason my hens are not laying in the winter and it’s not that cold here because I’m in Florida. They appear healthy and act normal??? I have no clue why they are not laying could it be the change in daylight hours?
