How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I've been otherwise engaged lately but back to reporting now! Six eggs from my 8 girls today, despite all of us sheltering from yet another atmospheric river deluge. Martha's blue and the 2 Eggers' greens (as usual) and three browns...one of those being another cute little pullet egg. šŸ™„

That's 4 little starter-pullet-sized eggs this past week; makes me wonder šŸ¤” if one of the brown egg girls took a winter break and is just now rejoining the club? I can't always tell who's laying the medium-brown-colored eggs. And everyone but the Eggers officially achieve hen status (one year old) this month.

I got 6 eggs yesterday.
The blue egg is from one of my Cream Legbars, Dixie. She turned 10 years old this month!!! She laid about 3 dozen last year. I was wondering if she would lay this year. Yay, for the older ladies!!!

I collected 7 from the 9 hens laying today, maybe more b/c I didn't check under the broodies before I final head count tonight (they like to sit on the poor girls and lay their eggs)
At what age to they tend to stop laying? My three OGs have basically stopped (I think? None so far since summer) They will be 4 years old in march

As they get older they take longer breaks between laying spells. Eggs general stop for molt and winter in older hens. I have a few 7-8 yr olds that lay a few in spring and summer. I have an 11 yr old Buff Orp that gave me 3 bumpy shelled eggs last year. It is more a gradual tapering off than a sudden stop.

Heritage types tend to lay longer than hybrids with less reproductive issues in my experience. Each hen is an individual though so it can vary.

I do love my older girls! They have a home for life! 😊

Edited to add- The person you questioned has not been on BYC in a long time. I hope I was able to answer your question.

Isn't she a beautiful queen! ♔♔♔
Thank you!

There are also 6 3yr old Cream Legbars out there in a separate pen. They have not been laying for a while. I told Dixie to have a talk with them.

I may have to walk through the pen of the younger ones and show off Dixie's egg.
Ask them what is going on? They are slacking! šŸ˜‚

I ended up with 5 yesterday and 9 today. My newly laying olive egger finally laid one in the nesting box. She has been laying in the corner of the coop. Today I’m off work so I have been watching for her on the camera.

When I saw her getting comfortable in her favorite corner I went out and moved her to the nesting box. She got upset about it and ran out to the run but when she came back in to lay the egg she did go into the nesting box to do it.
