How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Sleeping in the bushes?! Hope you don’t have too many predators there - mine would be racoon food - or froze hahaha!
No raccoons here — our seasons go from hot to hotter. Last night the girls decided to sleep together in a tree like a couple of delinquent teenagers avoiding curfew. Apparently the coop is now “strictly for egg-laying, not sleeping,” which is a brand-new development.

I know they hate eating in there because the hundreds of hermit crabs ambush them like tiny snapping piranhas… but we also spotted a massive rat the other day, and I’m pretty sure that’s what sent them running for the treetops as my leghorn doesnt have a backbone.

Big Red laid a lovely 54g egg first thing this morning.
Everyone was noisy this morning all the way to noon. No egg songs but what a ruckus the other two made with their "graaaar, graaar, graaar" sounds. I thought they would lay too but no such luck.
Even Cleatus was back in the coop trying to get them to lay in the corner he likes where he scratches a nest to the bare painted wood floor. I am glad they don't obey! He can be so dumb.

Here it goes from freezing cold and 14000’ of snow (ok a slight exaggeration hahaha about 4 to 5’), to hot humid steamy summers; my wimps hate the cold hate the heat, no pleasing them! Today it’s +3C (37F) and they are happy enough. No mosquitoes no snow so they are happy, nags are also happy, I see them galloping around like youngsters (they are mid 20s, old for horses).

Once everyone stops moulting my egg production might go up a bit, yesterday I found 7 reg sized eggs and wee bantam egg making a total of 8.

I don’t see my Noiran pullets starting to lay until well into the new year, but hopefully now my broody brats have stopped being broody and everyone is getting their feathers back I might get more than 6 or 7 eggs a day. 10 a day would be perfect.

Oooo hermit crabs - hahaha I was playing around with one when I was in the DR once and it latches onto my thumb nail hahaha couldn’t get the beastie to let go! Walked around with it for a hr - great conversation starter hahahahaha.

The beastie finally decided to let go, so I let it go on its way.
