How many eggs is everybody getting?

8 eggs a day from 8 Leghorns, once or twice a week it's only 7. They're 8-months-old, been laying about 2 months (they started late for the breed).

Some other hens *just* came in to lay this week which really surprised me, I'd been resigned to wait for spring.
Most surprising was the Genetic Hackles, one hen in particular is laying every single day. Another is laying sporadically. 7 month olds and it's a slow developing breed.

From the 7-month-old Black Ameraucanas, one of the three is laying 5 days a week.

Out of four 2 year old Isabel Ameraucana, one just started laying every day, this after they took the longest break for molting since late summer.

In Florida we're currently getting 10.18 hours of daylight, it doesn't get any darker, according to the Sunrise and Sunset Calculator it won't start getting lighter till January.
So, I do not understand why the young girls started laying, but I'll take it!

9 hours daylight, below freezing at night slightly above during the day. Coop 1 36 birds with ages ranging from 5 months (some 7 months) to 9 years. Not a single egg for about a month. Last layer of the season was a 8 year old hen.
Coop 2 with 9 birds of laying age. 2 with chicks. Mixed pullets and 2 year olds. 6 eggs a day. 5 of the eggs are from Silkies.

Wasn’t sure which section to ask this in😆

Just curious and would love to know what everybody’s average temperature is right now where you are, how many hours of light your chickens are getting, and how many eggs you are getting from your chickens 🙂

I’m asking as I’m in the UK and still getting around 4 eggs a day from 6 hens I currently have, whilst the averuage temp is about -1°C (30F) in the day and -4°C (24F), with only 8 hours of light a day.
Surely they’ve got to slow down or even stop soon😧
We don’t even particular eat many eggs and have loads spare, I feel as though they need a break 😂
I have six hens, three from spring 2021 and three from this past spring. Two of the older ones molted. One of those has started laying again we've had some nights in the teens. Yesterday morning it was 5°F. Been getting from 1 to 4 eggs a day.

Hahaha eggs, what are those? I haven't seen a single egg since November? October? And it's like this every year unless I have pullets come into lay.

I started slowing down on egg use and saving up eggs since late August. Down to maybe a dozen and a half in the fridge at this point, and it's unlikely any will resume laying before February. :(

My flock has 10 hens, between 2-6 years old.

My 5 older girls are 17 months old. Today I got 5 eggs. I'm surprised, since the days are quite short, now. I've been getting between 3 and 5. I don't supplement light - but they do have a tiny, red, night light in their coop.

My younger 4 girls are almost 5 months old. No eggs from them, yet
Today, I only got 3 eggs from my 17 month old girls. But I got my first egg from the 5 month Olds 🥰

Highs of 9c lows of 4, just come out of a week of snow and ice. Day length exactly 7and a half hours today. Feels gloomy already. 8 month olds started laying in September. One stopped in September other in November. 6 Month olds haven't started yet. In Yorkshire England.

I'm still fairly inexperienced on chickens. My 3 girls are almost 2 yrs old. They havent layed an egg in over a month. I'm south of Houston. Temps have been varying but it hasnt gotten very cold yet this winter. We're getting roughly 11 hrs of daylight right now.

So is this normal for them to not lay any eggs during winter? I dont remember them doing this last year. When can I expect them to resume laying?

Last year your birds were still young enough to skip molt and lay through winter. They won't resume laying until daylight hours begin to lengthen again.

This is why many folks have flocks with staggered ages, though the way I handle it is to save up eggs in the fall as much as possible.
