Macy May sleeps with us. She is a German Short Hair Pointer. We tried to kennel train her but after sleeping on the floor next to her for 2 weeks i gave up and put her in bed with us.
We have a chihuahua that sleeps half the night in our son's bed and the other in ours - PAIN IN THE NECK!! Why? Because they little guy is too old to make the jump on our bed so he wakes me up to help him up. I've tried ignoring his cries and whimpers but that is more annoying than just reaching down to give him the boost. I bought some of those doggie stairs and he's afraid of them.
Most of our cats end up on our bed.
Bucky has his "mommie" on the bed. He was a tiny kitten when we found him behind our refrigerator in the kitchen. Yes, I said we found him in our kitchen. We leave the back door open in the summer so the animals can come and go as they wish. I figure he was either dumped here or one of the neighbor's barn cats lost a kitten and he found our open door. Anyway, he was tiny and the first night thought I was his mommy. He sucked on my pj's until they were soaked so I gave him an old top. He's about 10 months old now and still cries at night until he locates his "mommie" and settles down for a good suck. You can lay there and hear him slurpping away for hours.
Blossom is our geriatric pet. She used to be our most independent cat. She'd leave for days. The only time she'd want to get in our bed was to tell us that she wanted out or food. But now that she's 16, her circulation isn't what it used to be and some evenings she decides to drool on us rather than our son. She insists on laying on top of me and nudges my arm until I agree to scratch her ears.
Lazarus - the most unique. This cat is unique! Found frozen to a concrete patio as a small kitten, we thawed him out, warmed him up and revived him. I never expected him to survive. It was cold so we would put him between our pillows to help keep him warm at night. He was a weak kitten for a while so he was carried like a baby in a carrier for a while. Anyway, the result is that as an adult he is more human at times that cat. He loves to hug you - He puts his paws around your neck and draws you towards him - like a real hug. He loves to nuzzle a chin. At night he likes to sleep with your arms wrapped around him, cuddled up. He'll look at your face and stroke your cheek, touch hair, and then he un-nerves you as he nibbles on your chin. He can't go to sleep until he give you that bite.
So, yes, I guess it qualifies that our pets sleep with us in bed.
Pepper, our Lab/Bull Terrier mix, sleeps with me when I nap during the day. I have MS, and she helps me get warm when our Civil War-era house gets cold. She also pokes me when I stop breathing (I have sleep apnea). She knows that when we go to bed at night, she goes to her own bed.
I thought I'd hate having to wash the bedclothes more often, but I really don't . . . I think she is worth it.
I love having cats sleep on me in the winter. DH isn't happy because they go out of their way to walk to his side of the bed to walk over him getting to me (my side is closer to the bed; they do this on purpose).
Callie, our yearling cat, thinks we should ALWAYS get up at 6am, even on weekends. DH is an early riser, so that's okay with him. When the power goes out and the alarm is dead, we appreciate her the cat alarm a lot.
Jezebel sleeps on my youngest DD's bed part of the time, on my feet the rest of the time.
No one sleeps on the teenage DD's bed. Guess it's been deemed too dangerous
When we lived in town, my dogs (Rottweiler and Wire haired pointing Grigffon)slept one on each side of the bed. Now that we live in the country, and they have taken up the habit of rolling in horse poo... they have their very own futon in the garage.
I love my dogs sooo much more now that they are not in the house--no scratched up hard wood floors or window sills, no dog hair that I need to sweep and vacuum up, and with living out here I am outside more often, so they get plenty of loving and exercise, so they are content in the garage.
When dh and I first met, his dog (dobermann) lept in bed with him. I told him he was either sleeping with the dog or with me --his choice--there was not room for the three of us. Flashforward 17 years later, and you can figure outwho he chose to sleep with...
I always had big dogs and when I put my last two down within 7 weeks of each other a couple of years ago (it darn near killed me as they grew up with my daughter) after awhile I decided this time to go with small. The big dogs never slept in my bed as they were always running through the woods, rolling in horse manure etc so I have a small mud room and that is where they stayed at night and when I was not home.
Somone was offering a 6 month old Chihuahua and she has turned out to be a little cutie. I always thought they were the yappiest little mean things I had ever seen but it really all about socialization and I love her. She does sleep under the covers with me. My daughter always wanted a pug, since she has seen one at a horse show qwhen she was ten, but there was no way I would or could spend the money that they were going for because I have no plans on showing or breeding and there are to many great homeless dogs that need homes. It came time for her to graduate from college and I started looking and decided to put my name in with pug rescue. Within 2 months I had a 14 month old female that a family had to surrender due to family situations which was two babies and the mother was overwhelmed. When my daughter is here she sleeps with her of course, when she sleeps out she sleeps with me. I also have three cats, one never sleeps on my bed and two do but not always at the same time. The biggest is 20 lbs and I swear it is like sleeping with a person. I have a king sized bed, no more husband, so I really don't care except a few nights they were all up there and it was to much! Yes I do have to wash the sheets and comforter more often but these two little dogs are like toddlers and they are content to be with us at night. I have never had any aggession issues with either one except the Chi can be timid and excited with anything nebut not aggressive. Soooooo it is a free for all in my bed every night!
