How many inches above shavings to havej 250watt red bulb for 95 degree

The only time I use a 250 watt bulb is when chicks are in the grow out coop by three weeks old in the dead of winter, never in the house. They'd roast, I'm afraid.

I hung my 250 Watt bulb from the shower curtain rod and had the brooder up on cat litter bins to get the temp right - Actually the 250 watt bulb was just too warm - get a red lizard 100 watt warming bulb at a petco or petsmart and I bet you will have an easier time.

The red 250 Watt bulb is 26 inches above them to get the little (incubator) thermometer to 95 degrees. I called the local pet store and they carry the 100 Watt version. I think I am going to go with that and lower it some??? We are having a cold snap starting tonight, with lows in the 40s and highs only upper 60s low 70s. The have to stay in the house for now, so I think the 100 watt will be better. Hope it fits in the lamp I am using now.
