I do primairly with the buttons when they are around 2.5 weeks old. It keeps them from bashing their heads against the top of the chick tanks ,so no scalping/feather loss happens. I leave the first few flight feathers ,then clip 3-5 feathers on each wing ,depending on the bird. Then I just let them be. By the time they molt new wing feathers again ,they are in the adult cages and I find my birds dont really try flying in those. They just hide in the plants/little house I have in there for them.

I don't clip any birds wings. I don't have issues with head boinking or anything. Low ceiling cages for the cbbq and the coturnix are calm boogers. Bobwhites like to wait at the door for feed most days

I clipped my coturnixes wings after one flew away but returned the next day. It really helps for me as they cant fly away but they can still fly a short height.
