im fine with other people doing i just dont want to do it myself.I have done it before and did not like doing itFarmgal, please keep in mind at some piont if you are hatching eggs you "WILL" need to cull or rehome roosters whether young or older. You need to prepare your self to possibly give away extra roosters to sometimes dinner table. This is one area my husband and i strongly agree that if we aren't willing to cull unneeded roosters there is no reason to have one to start with.
So please think about that, it seems you want to be able to hatch eggs but you really need to set up a plan for future roosters or before you know ot you will be feeding and possibly doctoring an all rooster flock
I have kept every rooster I've hatched/raised (I only ever buy straight-run) and I have 7 roos and 7 hens. The roosters are all kept in a rooster flock separate from the hen flock (except for one who stays with a bullied hen to keep her company). Just because you get too many roosters doesn't mean you have to get rid of them.Farmgal, please keep in mind at some piont if you are hatching eggs you "WILL" need to cull or rehome roosters whether young or older.

I know but we really dont need more chickens if your going to hatch chickens your going to have to learn how to sell them,How do you keep that many roosters in a pen without them fighting eachotherI have kept every rooster I've hatched/raised (I only ever buy straight-run) and I have 7 roos and 7 hens. ?!I have about 23 hens so I plan on keeping just 1 rooster in with them. The other roosters I'll turn loose in the yard to roam and fend for themselves. I have one that roams around already.
My chickens are starting to feather out and I get in the coop every day with them and try to hold at least a couple. This way they get used to me.
I did the same with my fully grown chickens when they were chicks and I can pet them now and pick them up. They aren't afraid at all of me.
