How many windows do you have in your coop?

Not nearly enough. My next coop will have wire on the upper 4 feet. I will have a cover for part of the winter but not to much. I just read the Backyard poultry magazine, it talks about the extreme ventilation that hens need to stay healthy. Last year I had trouble with my hens. I had it warm and I thought enough ventilation but the yr before I had more ventilation and less resp. problems. Humm more ventilation was better. this year there will be an area of 8x8 that is pretty much closed except for vents at the top. It will connect to an area with 4 feet or wire on one side. Since this area is 2 feet above the first, air rising will go out but no direct drafts will be on the roost. I think this is my best option this year. The only extra warmth will be from the water warmmer which I will use a very small bulb in to prevent freezing. Now having said all this, if I lived in an area that went below 0 often I might would cover a bit more.

I really like your coop. I like plain farm looking functional coops. Love, the big & high run.lots of room.

Thank you! I need to get more current pictures-it has a more lived-in look now.

I hear ya!! I'm always tinkering with mine. My problem is coop over load. I have 3 big coops around 300 sq ft each & 2 other pens for some quail. Think I'm gonna buy the Astrodome & turn it into a big bad arse coop & be done with it.

The hubby says he's going to turn farm into a giant coop. I'll mention the Astrodome to him.

Thanks everyone, the door faces south so I'm thinking I'm going to frame up the inside with lots of chicken wire. then I'm going to frame up a screen type door so I can fit in and get out. That way in the mornings I can leave the big doors open and let in more light and air.

I luck out because the roof over hangs the walls. After rain storms it appears the walls are dry, so that shouldn't be a problem. I will definately be caulking a lot around them LOL.

I wish I could do this, but I'm in Ohio and it's cold here. Also my rabbits live in the coop. LOL I'm sure they'd be really ticked off if I did something like that.

I have a large S. East facing window that does not open. I also have a East facing window that is open full time in the summer, screened with hardware cloth. The East and gable end is open, covered with hardware cloth for ventilation; this also lets in light.
