How much do you handle your chicks?

I handle my babies many times a day, myself. I don't allow anyone else but my parents to handle them unsupervised, especially kids. As long as they know that people mean warm hands, gentle handling, and in the case of my babies, fresh juicy earthworms LOL, then they will love people! I spoil them rotten!

I handle mine every day, for at least a few moments. I really want them to be calm and quiet when they are adults, so I'm working a lot with them.

I'm trying to train my dog to let them sit on him as well (under very strict supervision!), so that he understands not to eat them. I'm not sure how that will work. I hold them while I'm online, and I practice spreading their wings, and other show chicken type stuff.

Some chickens will learn their names and respond while others don't. I'd estimate maybe one third of my flock responds to their names.

I hold mine a lot but I don't think they'll ever learn their names cause I don't really talk to them. I have one named Yui though and I nicknamed her my vulture child cause she kind of reminds me of a vulture XD

I hold my babies as often as possible. They chirp VERY loud when it's time for me to go love on them. 5 of the 6 come right to my hand, there is just one that is leery of me and prefers my husband

The breeds I have are 7 Barred Rocks, 1golden buff, 1 laced wyannadotte, and 1 silver penciled Rock. Since they were about 5 days old six barred rocks, the Golden buff and the laced wyannadotte run and fly into my lap. I handle them often. Only 2 out of 10 are shy.i feel so blessed with my chicks. 3 or 4 times a day I sit in front of the brooder (which is a large dog cage ) I open the door, sit down and let the babies fly to my lap .they are about 11 days old now and so precious! I've handled them since day 1 (well actually day 2 of life when they arrived). All but my two shy ones are so loving. All sexed females. Funny thing is they are not friendly with everyone. When my husband goes to hold one, even my most cuddly, she will peep really loudly and squirm away from him. I think I got blessed to have imprinted on them. They think I'm momma hen :)
