How much do you pay per bird for processing?

You could never get away with that in my area, but if I could, I sure would. We have been selling our birds for $1.60/lb dressed. I think next year I will up it some. This is our first year and wanted to keep prices low in an effort to get as much business as possible. I still profit about $3 on a 4lb bird.

Do you drink them that fast? LOL If so, I hope you're wearing protective gloves.

Maybe they process them that slowly.

$4 per bird, bagged, around here.

The going rate for free range CX's in Oregon - Willamette Valley area charging $3.50 per lbs processed and they are averaging 7.5lbs per bird.

I would definitely like to here more on pricing from the group. Maybe we should adjust ours.

All comments are welcome.

chickensducks&agoose :

Im talking about the COST to get my bird from squawkin' to freezin'... not the cost of the bird, just the price i am charged by the guy who comes and cuts off their heads and takes away their feathers and guts.

From the guy who comes to you? My price was for the guy I take my chickens to.

I can't even find anybody to process chickens here in Brooksville, Florida. We found some place to process our turkey. They charged $25. We aren't raising meaties any more for that reason - I'm just too soft to do it myself.
