While I think the world of my chickens, I am under no illusion that they love me. I am not even sure that they would still respect me in the morning.
Yes, they look forward to SHE WHO LETS US OUT. Yes, they run to SHE WHO DISPENSES FOOD when they spot me. Yes, they race from wherever they range when SHE WHO CACKLES LOUDLY calls, but. . .
I fear that the only way my chickens would truly love me would be if I dropped over dead in their coop. "Yum, I loved that snack! I wonder when we will get another meal like her?"
When all is said and done, they are just chickens.
