How much is your electric bill this month?

dont make the mistake we did....we installed a fireplace because we wanted to heat the house....wrong....we should have installed a wood stove instead....the fireplace looks pretty but it eats up wood and hardly no heat....the fireplace costed 2000 and now it will cost another 2000 to put an insert in to heat properly.....mistake

Before we bought this house, we lived in an apartment in the city. The city had it's own power company and our bills were never over 130$...and that was in the summer with AC's full bore (I didn't trust people enough to leave windows open.) Our normal winter bill was 40-60$. Now we moved here in between seasons....we closed Aug. 28. We haven't had a bill under 130$ now! So a major part of the bill debate is just the rates charged. I tried to explain away the extra cost as rates going up for the winter...or we use more electricity 'cuz it's what turns our furnace on (oil/steam heat) But yeah, in reality....it's probably the brooders!

I only have 1 light on right now, but by the end of the week I should have at least 2 more....

Yeah I know about the woodstove thing my DH built our woodstove, most of his family has woodstoves and swear by the things. Most of his family has their woodstoves in their basments too, nice warm floors. I am looking forward to cozy heat again.......

$45 dollars on the last bill. I have 6 people living here but we use alot of propane. Propane costs us around $300 a month. I'd love to go all electric and get solar panels. Maybe one day.

$300 here...and I hate to say but that's normal for us. Of course, we're still having to run the A/C here...no heating for us.

I wish it would cool off and I could use my fireplace...it heats my house very nicely and saves us a lot on the bill when it's cooler outside.

Combined electric and gas- since that is the only way to get it from our utility company.

$388 and some change.

And we have the heat down to 60 all the time. Setting it even lower now. Radiators in un used bedroom and the bathroom are turned off.
we have those spiral bulbs through out the house. TV etc on switches we can shut completely off. everything that can be turned off when we leave is turned off when we leave. No heater in the coop.
Newer windows. Mudroom has plastic over the door and window.

The utility company we are stuck using charges the second highest rates in the nation and charges the highest rates in the state.

Oh and they still havent gotten power back to everyone from the ice storm that happened on the 12th.

mine is abot $150 but i have heat lamps,bators, fish tanks and stuff in the barn. well that is what my husband blames it on. we don't pay more than 10 in gas a month because our outdoor wood boiler heats, house, barn and hot water. only gas i pay for is cooking and some months there is no use....lol

$181.00 Highest its ever been but this is the first year we had had such cold weather we had to run the heat most of the time. At night I cut it down to 60 but days I have to have heat, I try to keep it about 72 and wear a sweatshirt. marrie
