How much nutridrench is too much for Little Lou?

Where are you looking to get it? Do you have a Petco or Petsmart nearby? Often they carry Kaytee Exact parrot formula and it's only $12.

If not, if you have a blender, you can blend a mix soupy enough to get it through the tube of his regular food and water, that's better than nothing.

But you'll want to tube water first before anything else, because you don't want to try to feed them when they are dehydrated.

Ok, I have aquarium tubing and both type of syringe..no pet I..or anything, in farm country...ok, so first do water..with BComplex...then blended crumbles? About how much of this god..and do I put water with the crumbles?

Ok, I totally just read that great thread on tube feeding...going to try it...quick question about this forum..someone said they were going to bookmark that post...how do you do that? I’m alone, so..wish me luck tonight.

Just concentrate on fluids tonight. The tube goes down the duck’s right side of his throat, avoiding the airway (trachea) at the base of the tongue. Do you know how much he weighs, or can you weigh him while holding him, then weigh yourself, and subtract your weight? A kitchen scale works well for most poultry. Fluids are given slowly at first to see if he tolerates it. 15 ml per pound 3-4 times a day is the liquids goal. You have given NutriDrench already, right? So no B vitamins are needed. @casportpony , can you verify that? The grind up some chicken feed and blend it a lot of measured water. Tomorrow morning might be good to start food.

The syringe in the picture is where the tube goes down, and you can feel the tube passing in the neck down to the crop.

Also note that ducks don't have a real crop, so you might not feel or see it expanding like you would on a chicken. That's normal, and like Eggcessive said, start with just fluids, most important is to get him hydrated.

Well... I did it..and I did it right!! He did great! I think he weighed almost two lbs so I gave him right around 30 ml..he didn’t move an inch..I got it fight down the side and I could see him breathing...it was sooo much easier than I thought!! Whewww. Thank you ladies, once again!!

Ok ladies, I’ve just done my last feeding for the night. I have goats..I had poor luck blending the crumbles. I have goats and one of the things I feed is soybean meal. I looked it up and it said ducks love soybeans..so, I figured it couldn’t hurt at this point and added a bit tonight. I know there is a lot of good nutrients in it for the goats. When I went to give his last water and feed tonight...his mouth was tacky inside. The saliva was mucous..and I know that’s not good. I really feel, in my gut, that he was stepped on and broke the leg/ joint, and infection set in. There doesn’t look to be a Bumblefoot, no matter how hard I want it to be that. The callous is flat as can be...and when I pick..no kernel..and he feels no pain there. Anyways... I don’t think he’s going to make it long. I would love any insight you have at this point...or, do you know of any over the counter med I could give for infection?
