Well said! I agree with this post 100% percentFor mixes, I generally advertise them to go free if someone's buying some pullets; I get a lot of pretty unique birds hatch out so some do take 'that handsome one' as a flock protector. Any left at the end of the season, I cull myself, in that I at least know that I am doing so humanely (cervical dislocation) where someone else may not. I am lucky to have a local acquaintance who then processes them for me, and we share them between ourselves for use as meat.
If you're selling a good quality purebreed cockerel, the prices can be high; for breeding, the cockerel provides half the flock, his genes will be in all of the offspring, so a perfect cockerel to breed standard is worth a good amount of money. I tend to sell mine at the same price I would sell a hen of that breed for.
I'd do well to get 2 cents for a roo!
