How much would you sell a rooster

For mixes, I generally advertise them to go free if someone's buying some pullets; I get a lot of pretty unique birds hatch out so some do take 'that handsome one' as a flock protector. Any left at the end of the season, I cull myself, in that I at least know that I am doing so humanely (cervical dislocation) where someone else may not. I am lucky to have a local acquaintance who then processes them for me, and we share them between ourselves for use as meat.

If you're selling a good quality purebreed cockerel, the prices can be high; for breeding, the cockerel provides half the flock, his genes will be in all of the offspring, so a perfect cockerel to breed standard is worth a good amount of money. I tend to sell mine at the same price I would sell a hen of that breed for.

Well said! I agree with this post 100% percent :goodpost:

Location/Breed/Market/Age- so many factors. I have been selling Blue Australorpe cockerels for $20.
Barn yard mixes from 5-10 bucks.
Young and tender costs more than old and soup/crock pot roos.
Geographic market will dictate what your locals will pay. If your local market is flooded, good luck trying to give them away.
