How much would you sell laying hens for?

Laying hens of your standard varieties like RIR or Orp seem to go for around $15 around here. "Special" types like bantams, EE's and other fancy types go for more (around $25).

Edited to add: Hmmm I have heard of people keeping seramas indoors since they are tiny and more like a parrot but never full size laying hens. I don't think I would recommend that.

I've been perusing our Craigslist and for a 6 month old, not yet laying they seem to be between $15-20 and a hen around a year old that is laying is generally $20-25. Purebreds are higher cost and many people do state right in their ads that they reserve the right to refuse to sells based on living conditions of the birds. So if you found they were going to be crated in her house you are certainly within your rights to refuse to sell them to her.

I think most people have written fairly. I would sell a hen for 15 if I liked the person very much. Like a relative or close friend. I would prefer about 20, because if I sell a hen, I will get less eggs and my eggs go for 3.00/dozen. So 5 or 6 dollars like someone had said on another topic a while back would be a no brainer to me. It just costed more to get into the chickens this go round for me to consider ole time prices.

I paid $10/ea for my four pullets. I got an Ameraucana that was 10 weeks. RIR, Buff Orp, Bl Aus that were 6-7 weeks. They were healthy and transitioned well to their new environment.
