How not to ship eggs!

That's pathetic.....there are certainly some idiots in this world!! I have only received one box that were poorly wrapped and it was very similar to Kasi's eggs. Most of the time I'm cussing by the time I get the eggs unwrapped, but I'd rather have it that way....at least they have a chance of hatching!!

It's amazing how some people ship eggs. Last year I received a ton of eggs from various breeders. Some of the breeders had this down pat and each egg was just perfect. I also received a batch just like you've shown here exactly! About 4 of mine were also broken. Also, I can tell you from experience with eggs and other things too,,,the postal people do not care at all if you have the words FRAGILE written on your box. I think they are such in a hurry that those words get missed as I received broken stuff in the mail all the time with those words on it.
Most of my successful eggs that arrived were individually wrapped in bubble then placed into an egg carton, the egg carton wrapped in bubble then placed into another box full, I mean full of bubble and peanuts. No way could the eggs move I guess and I my eggs were successful arriving that way. Hopefully, seller will be willing to help you out in some way....I would certainly ask. Good luck, sorry for the disappointment. Thanks for sharing that for all to see!!! Julie

Melanie, I got your eggs yesterday - they may have actually made it to the post office Monday, but my 7 yo son got sick at school & my plans for the day took a bit of a detour.

Anyway, they made it and are all in great shape. Not a single crack among them. I have to tell you that I was reading this thread earlier & cringed a bit when you said you had gone with HatTrick's method. The only time I've had multiple breaks in a shipment was the first time I ordered eggs over the late summer, and that was through HatTrick. I contacted Janet, and she said it meant that something went very wrong in transit because they so rarely hear about problems with eggs. None of them hatched. I honestly don't think it was a problem with the method so much as a problem with shipping, but you can understand why I was a little worried when I saw your post.

Good news, though, is that all is well & they're here ready to start incubating. Thank you for caring!

I am so glad.
This has been driving me nuts.
I wanted to email you but I was sure I would just ramble on and make no sence what so ever.
I hope you get lots a chicks. Are you going to candle them in a week?
If so let me/us know how you make out with.
You are a long way from the east coast.

:) Melanie

Is there any way, without firing up some legal issues, to identify people known to package their eggs poorly -- particularly those who are unresponsive/rude to constructive criticism? I would hate to see anyone else order eggs from one of the seller's I recently did business with, but other than negative feedback on eBay it seems I don't have many options for warning folks. Could we make a list of sellers who impeccably pack their eggs?

lexustami - What a mess, I feel so sorry for you.
That lady had a good idea but her problem was the egg carton.
You can NOT use that type of egg carton with fiberfill.
YOU NEED TO BY THE TRI-FOLD EGG CARTONS.
you put fiber fill in the botom of each cup put the eggs in
then put fiber fill in the other side of the egg cups flip that over
onto the eggs then flip the outer lid shut.
The eggs can not move. and will not break.

THIS IS HOW I DO IT 99% OF THE TIME

A few weeks ago I received a shipment of eggs, these were wrapped in paper towel, in an egg carton with bubble wrap for cushion-in a box of packing peanuts- 3 of these eggs were cracked when I candled them, six had loose air cells. PERFECT packaging, but still unusable eggs.

A week ago I ordered eggs for my friend on ebay, received 4 dozen-16 were broken and/or covered in goop that I couldn't get off. These were in the same type of cardboard egg cartons, and in an oversized box with packing material. Acceptable packaging, but I could see the marks in the box where it had been hit or thrown against something.

Sometimes the PO really IS to blame. I don't think either of these sellers did a poor packaging job.

I agree with CC, a sticky message board where you can add the names of people who do an EXCEPTIONAL job of packing, that along with pictures of different way to sucessfully pack and ship eggs.
I'll start the list. For the first time I shipped some eggs that I got from ebay from the seller justinsmachone. I ordered 2 dozen, he sent 30 individually bubble wrapped eggs, all arrived 100% safe.
I just ordered 2 dozen more from 2 different ebay sellers that are in the mail right now. Will report on them in a day or two.

Aloha,
Cory

I ordered eggs on e-bay and they were wrapped horribly. Only thin paper around them and all but one that I could tell were broken. Being new to hatching I had no idea about hairline cracks. Put the one that seemed intact in the bator and in 4 days it smelled like death. I was so upset.
Bought some from poison ivy and they were perfectly wrapped and in great condition. Lots of bubble wrap. They are in the bator on day 6 and my newbie candling shows that I have babies!!

Now if my homemade bator keeps working and I don't mess anything up I am expecting babies in a few weeks YEAH!!!

If I order eggs again(I should say when, lets face once you get eggs you will always get more eggs) I will order from poison ivy or another breeder here on BYC. People who care how there eggs arrive and do there best to package properly.

i have had good and bad luck on ebay.i got some buff eggs sent in a carton with saw dust over 2/3 were broke. the rest of the times they were packed good. you are afraid to leave bad feedback because they will leave you some for no reason.i have sold and bought over 1200 items on ebay and ony have 5 negs. and they were for shipping.
