Yes, especially if it reddened more, also.

OOOOh, yeah! she's really red and her wattles like grew so much. hmmmm... I thought for sure my cinnamon queens would be first, but their wattles aren't growing like hers are... This shall be a fun thing to figure out!

Any idea how long I should expect for her to lay an egg? she's been awfully noisy lately and squawking all the time at everyone. LOL!

I've got three New Hampshire Reds that are 16 weeks old. I checked yesterday morning, no eggs yet. I checked this morning about 7:30, found my first egg, and it was actually in the nest box! Went out this afternoon, another egg in the nestbox! Was filling up waterer this evening and lo and behold, another egg, this one in the corner of the pen on the ground.

So, the dilemma, do I have one hen laying late in the morning (after I checked yesterday) and I just didn't find the egg in the corner when it was laid, or do I have more than one hen laying? The first one I found was huge and oblong. The other two are smaller but perfectly shaped. Guess I'll know if I get three more tomorrow or the next day.

Anyway, I was so excited! My dh still thinks I'm nuts over these chickens......he may be right.

That's hard to figure. Some let you know it'll be real soon by checking out the nesting boxes. Others just lay as they walk, as if they didn't even know it was going to happen. Reminds me of those people who deliver babies in bathrooms and claim they didn't even know.

My Buff Rock finally laid!!!
25 weeks, pinkish tan, medium sized.

LOL! thats too funny... well now after listening to some youtube links, the noise she's been making is the egg song. so who knows whats up with it. she doesn't lay eggs and all this time I thought it was a distress call or something! I made another thread about it because I'm just confused!

My big ol' light brahma! I think she WANTS to lay an egg, but every time she jumps onto the nest box, she flips it over!!!!
Man, she's gotta be HEAVY!

This is her second day of flipping.....

We have 4 Barred Rocks, of which 2 have been laying for a little over a week...(since Aug 22). They were all 3 days old when we got them, but have matured at very different rates.
It is about 20 weeks now, that we have had them.

Today, Molly, the 3rd latest to mature, laid her first egg! YAY! It was much lighter in color than her "sister's"; more a light beige than a real brown egg, but we are delighted!

Now we have just one "freeloader" and that's Mimi...she has hardly a comb and no wattles at all...but she'll come along when she's ready....(hopefully!)
