How old was your hen when she laid her 1st egg?

I would think that you need to have them on the grower feed instead of the starter, they need the extra protein,

I have them on Medicated Start & Grow, I'll have to check and see if they carry just grower feed here ~ not sure I have seen it. From what I have seen, it goes from Start & Grow to laying pellets.

Thanks...I'll check.

We put our pullets on laying mash at around 14 weeks I think. The first pullet started laying at 16 weeks. By the way, she did not have a comb hardly at all on top of her head so I don't know what that has to do with maturity ???

Will this delay things? I am in the same boat...

I'm no expert, but it wouldn't surprise me if it could! You know that women who live all together often end up with somewhat synchronized cycles, so why not chickens? I believe most herd animals are the same way.

Huh. I had never even thought of that! This chicken thing sure is interesting!

I have two BR's laying as of now. One laid her first at 18 1/2 weeks the other one laid her first egg at 19 weeks. Small Light brown pullet eggs. It was a bit weird the BR that started laying at 18 1/2 weeks laid 3 pullet size eggs and then laid a good size large egg and then back to pullet size, but getting larger everyday.

Just waiting for the rest of the flock to catch up in age.

Breed of hen-Andalusian (splash)

Age in weeks when she laid- 22 weeks

If you have more than one of that breed, did they all start laying around the same time?- The other two have not started yet

Color of egg- white

Size of egg- sm/md will measure and take picture soon no time right now

Breed of hen-EE, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Faverolle

Age in weeks when she laid- EE 24 weeks, SLW and Faverolle, sometime between 22 and 24 weeks (their eggs are nearly the same color, so I'm not sure who started laying first).

If you have more than one of that breed, did they all start laying around the same time?- Yes, I got my first brown egg on Sept. 11, my first green egg on Sept. 14, and the other brown egg layer definitely started less than two weeks from Sept. 11 (not sure of exact date). Two of my hens hatched on the same day, and the other one was hatched exactly one week later, so they're basically the same age.

Color of egg- green, brown, brown

Size of egg- green eggs medium, brown eggs started off pretty small (not tiny, though) and are now mostly medium size.

pic (not sure if the brown eggs here are from two hens, or only one)-this is after about 1 week of laying, so it doesn't include the littlest first few eggs:

here's the best pic I have of the SLW and Faverolle's eggs together:

You can see the Fav isn't laying the "tinted" eggs she's supposed to, which is why I didn't realize she was laying at all until I saw these two brown eggs together in the nest box one morning. You can ignore the yellow one--it's my decoy!

Hyzenthlay - I want a chicken that lays one of those pretty shiny multi-colored eggs?

My LF Cochin started laying first at 22 weeks. She was the smallest one of the bunch. ( All had a hatch date of March 13th, 2009) Her egg was small and lightly tinted. See below:

Nosy, my Silver Laced Cochin.

She still lays small eggs - I can always tell hers by the size. The other two cochins and three brahmas all started laying within the next two weeks. I also have some 17 week old Salmon Faverolles that have not started laying yet.
