How old was your hen when she laid her 1st egg?

Three of my EE hens are now laying. The first began when she was 25 weeks, the other two just this week at 27 weeks. All are laying on average of 2 out of 3 days and are giving nice sage green eggs. Funny, one hasn't quite figured it all out yet. She sits in the nest box for 1/2 - 3/4 of an hour and then just before she's ready to lay she jumps out and drops the egg wherever!!! The other two have picked out their choice nest boxes and leave their eggs there!

I have one more EE to still start laying (same age) and 4 Barnevelder hens that are now 29 weeks old and still narry a sign of an egg.

One of my EE's just laid her second egg. They're all 25 weeks old. The other EE and the two Barred Rocks haven't laid yet. Anyday I hope. Goldie had a hard time laying her second egg, she was anxiously running around the run, in and out of the next box all morning. I was getting worried. Then she went in to the nest box and stayed for a bit. She laid egg number two! We lost a cockatiel from being egg bound so I was worried. But's she's fine now. It's SO exciting getting your first egg. Goldie's are a beautiful light green.

We are getting very impatient; have had our hens since August 2nd and they still haven't laid. The lady we bought them from said they were about 1 month old.
Can't wait; it would be neat if it was on Christmas morning!!!

First girls to lay were my EE's at 16 weeks old. I got them
in Feb. My summer chicks did not lay until they were 28 weeks
old. I think spring chicks lay alot sooner than those that you get
in the summer to lay in the fall.
