How "rural" is your area?

Satelite used as a birdbath, what a cool idea. I can probably find one of those in someones back yard around here.

Our birds need another place to bathe.

I think the bird bath is a wonderful idea. I even have 2 small extra dishes here...... hmmmm sounds like a weekend project to me!
We live "out there" but not too "out there". We are a mile down a dirt road, but only 2 miles from the kids school. We are about 6 miles from the closest grocery store and our "downtown". Population 6000. Less than 10 minutes to the interstate. We have a neighbor on our north side but we are both on 5 acre parcels. We butt up to a state park so no neighbors behind us and none to the south that touches our property. Neighbors across the road are on 30+ acres.

We are on a paved road, in between two small towns, population between 300 and 600 for both of them. But we are 20 minutes from a 'real town', as someone said,

and it has a wal-mart and two dollar stores!!! Our closest neighbors are about 1/4 and 1/2 miles away.

The house we USED to live in, however...... Our closest neighbor was about a mile away, we lived without running water on 350 acres. There was a barren cattle ranch directly north of us that was about 12 x 20 miles square, at LEAST. So, that was a little too "out there".

I guess I'm fully urban in comparison! In the middle of a town of 100K, neighbors within 15' on either side, but a 200' long back yard.

We get along well enough because everyone respects each others' space- one neighbor has a really shabby looking exterior, and we don't have a garage, so we have a bunch of tarped stuff until we get one up...it would be perfect if we could manage it, but no one can, so we have tolerance and patience.

It's good to not have to fuss with the nearby folks, but the only ones we have trouble with are the jerks behind and over a bit who beat their pit-bulls...we're still trying to get video of it because the animal control won't do anything about it.

My area is so rural that my neighbor does have a koi pond made from his old satellite dish. Directions to my house include, "follow the power lines". I have got stuck with my jeep going down my 1/4 mile drive way. I have to cut my grass (mow the lawn for some of you) with a bush hog. We are so rural my sons and I can pee in the yard without hearing giggles!
