How to become self-sufficient (kinda) with chickens.

I'd like a windmill also. It would be nice to generate your own electricity. I don't know why something hasn't been invented yet where your exercise bike powers your TV

I believe they have such a bike. Have you ever seen, Living like Ed, on the Green Channel? Ed Bagley uses a bike for power up his toaster for his morning toast, must be something like what you are talking about???

I read somewhere a programable thermostat is one of the best conservation item to buy. We run ours, 60° at night, 68° for one hour when we get up in the morning and a hour in the evening after dinner, the rest of time 64°. A consistant saver, it's great!
I am very much interested in a windmill, it's in the planning...

I'd like to power things with chicken poo....

that comic was HILARIOUS!!!

I agree 100% about not reusing the canning lids - but maybe they put down parafin before using them again? I assume that would work.

Anyone have ideas on where to get mason jars cheap?

thanks! I was scrounging for them last year and I'm hoping to can more tomatoes this year. I have enough dill pickles from last year to last me till 2020.

It does look like the hobbits house!!! It may be easier to build on a mountain than underground though. I think my hubby would think I was nuts if I suggested building one

I bet if you took your goat with you and both of you flashed that smile after asking... well... she'd just HAVE to say yes.
