how to convince mom to get ducks

Ok. Do some research on some domestic duck breeds. Many of them cannot fly. If you want ducks to stick around and that aren't fully fenced, one of these breeds may work better for you. Generally speaking, the larger the duck breed, the lower it's capability of flying.

In terms of not getting along with chickens, I would propose purchasing sexed female ducks only. You will likely have less drama with the chickens, and you'll get eggs (bonus!). Since you have water nearby, the ducks will likely spend most of their time in/around the water and probably won't care too much about the chickens.

I'm not sure how much room they have, but the more space, the less drama (in any flock). Also I would provide the ducks a separate house to sleep and lay in as well as a separate feeding area. You saving money to buy them a house or taking initiative to build them a house might strengthen your case a bit too!
ok so did some research and I think Khaki Campbells would be a great fit here! thank you so much for the advice! :))

I have a few KCs, some of my chickens are actually bigger than my KCs! My KCs actually prefer hanging out with some of the chickens than hanging out with the bigger ducks. We call them the defectors because recently they seem to have switched flocks and abandoned the other ducks to join forces with the chickens!

usually its stuff about how they just fly off at the end and dont get along with chickens

Wow! I just love the subject of this thread  I remember last year I went bonkers trying to convince my parents to let me get ducks, and I talked about it EVERY DAY. Well that approach didn't work for my parents. I went almost an entire year without mentioning ducks, and sure enough, when I asked at the beginning of this year if I could get ducks, within one week, they said yes! So I agree with what the other person said, be sure to not harrass your parents too much, address their concerns individually, and be sure to do your research so you know breed-specific information. I hope you get her to see your point of view!:thumbsup

The Livestock Conservancy web page was recently pointed out to me, and has been great at researching different breeds. This page here is listed in order of endangerment. Who know, maybe conservation could be a good selling point too.

We love our ducks, and none of them are able to fly. Not to mention, our Peking put themselves to bed every night. I used egg production and just being cute as excuses with my wife, although they're realistic reasons too.
We have Peking, Ancona, and Indian Runners.
Best of Luck!

thank you so much I will bring this up with her again soon and I will defiantly with bring up eggs too! we sell chicken eggs so she would love to sell duck eggs!
While the Khaki Campbell is often praised as the best egg layer, they are also more nervous and afraid of humans and the females can be very vocal.
Almost everybody loves Runner Ducks with their upright posture and their comical way of running around. If cared with love while ducklings they can be very friendly and not shy to humans. They are also good egg layers.
If you want to focus on eggs, try the Golden 300 Hybrid from Metzer Farms or the White Layer, those breeds have been created to lay eggs and lay more and larger eggs than the KCs.
