How to count the hatching days

46 hours and they are finally all hatched. 18 eggs 15 hatched without problems 1 assisted hatch went bad and the chick did not survive, 1 assisted hatch went well and the chick is with the rest and the 3 rd assisted hatch is still touch and go. I put it back in the incubator to fluff up and get stable on the feet!

Hey, nice job !! Those are good numbers. Congrats !! Good luck on the assisted chicks, I know it can be difficult to get them to normal, sometimes they just perk right up, and sometimes it seams they struggle for awhile.

Good job! I tried to assist the last egg this past hatch and there were to many blood vessels and he died! I felt so horrible! I know you tried. I also had one that got stuck 75% of the way through zip, for 2 hours he kept banging his beak on the same spot, so I gently pushed the shell open a little and he got himself out in no time! Turned out he had a very vaulted skull (silkie). I guess you win some & lose some but boy is it hard to lose em!!

Under my natural broody hens in the past they were born on days 22-26 (two diff hens) first hand experience a year and 3 years prior.
It is my first time trying to incubate them manually and so I will be looking for signs of pipping days 20 and onward.

This is my final assisted hatch chick. Sat on a heating pad in my lap for 3 hours. Then spent 2 hours in the incubator before joining the flock. Still a little unsteady but is up and moving around with the rest of them.

I didn't realize how long a hen could hold onto sperm so imagine my surprise when they started hatching and they looked like the rooster I had to get rid of... He was a Mean SOB! But oh so pretty. From what I could tell he was a blue wesummer cream legbar cross and part bantam. The rooster I still have is a rhode island red austerlupe cross full size.
The 1 day old chicks weigh between 26-31 grams. The Mamas are mostly Rhode Island mixed with Austerloupe and 1 is a EE blue welsummer cross. Basically they are all mutts!

I love the pics!!! I didn't know that about chickens either! Hopefully they take on their moms personality and not their dads! the first pic is beautiful!!! Congrats!!

I have two eggs in the incubator and I had it on 32.2 at one time that's what it said online to do on day 18 but then I asked somebody else and they told me to raise the temperature to 37.7 degrees Celsius one egg didn't make it but I have to I'm just wondering if they're still going to make it

I just came across this and I’m hoping someone can put my mind at ease. I thought day 1 was day 1. I didn’t read anything that said day 1 was actually day 0. So I have my first pips this morning which I thought was day 21. I guess today is day 20....my concern is that I put them into lockdown about 24 hours too early then . Will they be ok?
