How to get dark/vibrant blue eggs?

I have had EEs for a while and all the blue eggs I get are very pale. I see lots of pictures on the forums from people who get beautiful dark blue or turquoise eggs...

Can anyone tell me if it's just the luck of the draw or if pure-bred blue egg layers lay darker blue eggs?

I would really like to add those gorgeous colors to my egg basket.

Hrm... I wonder if the same gene that gives the nice plum bloom for the Croad Langshans over a blue shell egg would make for a darker or more intense coloration.

i've been thinking that too.... Seems to be almost impossible to get one in the US...
