How to grind up raw bones for puppies?

What breed is your puppy? Just curious...

our mastiff was 3 months old when we got him so we had no problems with bones. We do cut them smaller with a really good SHARP pair of kitchen shears. We got some from Wal-Mart of all places! They will actually cut through the leg/thigh bones without too much effort. We actually do this so the dogs don't drag their dinner throughout the house. Our Mastiff can easily break them up now - whole leg quarters are not a problem - but I have no desire to find chicken bits all over the living room!!!

Are you feeding a complete raw diet? Again, just curious....

He's a Great Pyr./Newfoundland mix, although I'm doubtful either parent was purebred. He will be quite large as I saw the sire and dam.

We won't be doing a complete raw diet, we currently add stuff to our dog's kibble depending on what we have on hand, which produce is in season, what animal happened to be butchered that day, etc.

I was just thinking about the bone thing, as I know how good raw bones are for large/giant breed pups especially. He was taken from him mama and littermates too early, so I'd like to do the best I possibly can for him.

If you are having a hard time now, I guess just wait a few weeks till he is bigger and his teeth are more set. Then introduce the bones.
How about chicken feet to add extra nutrients? They are easy to chew for him. Any rabbit around?

I really hate the "in the wild" argument. We've completely changed these dogs to the point that most don't survive in the wild anymore. I would give large bones and let him gnaw on them, but I wouldn't crush bones for him. At this point "in the wild" he'd be getting his calories from milk and small amounts of meat to practice eating. You do have to be a little careful about giving large breed dogs too much calcium, it actually does more harm than good.
