How to Grow a Blueberry Bush

SUlfur has other purposes too. Supposed to be a good anti-flea product. I have tried it on the cats with some success. Not perfect but easy to apply. At the time, this was an alternative to using Frontline. Originally bought the sulfur to dust the chooks.

My main experience with sulphur is as a fungicide on peanut vines. It is good for black spot on Roses.

THat is interesting. Now I have a growing list of anti fungals like coconut oil, tannins and now sulfur. THough I cant say the CO and Tannins are suitable for blueberries or penuts, they did help with athletes feet. CO kept it in check but the tannins ( brewed tea) kicked its butt in about 4 weeks.

Apologies for derailing the thread, but I sure could use some advice.

I just planted 2 new blueberry bushes last weekend, so of *course* a sudden freeze is predicted here for late Sat. night into Sunday.

What, if anything, can I do to get them through it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I assume they are all leafed out? And, you're in Georgia? This does not compute! Do you have some buckets or trash cans you could set over them? You could cover them at night, and as soon as the temp is above 32, you could uncover them. Generally, blueberries are very hardy, but, I'm guessing you have more tender cultivars. Are they true blueberries, or perhaps buckeyes? Or Juneberries?

These are 2 new foot-high plants I just put in last weekend, which are already flowering. What I ended up doing was watering them, covering the soil w/ some peat moss, and covering them up, securing the covers w/ rocks. So I guess I need to uncover them today to let them warm up and then cover them again tonight, yes?

...I live in a mountain valley in GA and believe it or not it was SNOWING on the mountain last night about 6 miles from my house!! Supposed to get cold again tonight.

Thanks LG fro coming to the rescue!! Tough weather on newly set plants.

As a youngster my mother and I picked on the barrens-- open exposed and SHORT plants. TOugh environment. Best berries were in the shade of another plant. lol
