How to keep an ADHD kid still

Teach her to knit...make things for people.....for herself....or read to her! Has she read Harry Potter yet? Any of them? My kids and I holed up in the air conditioning one summer, and took turns reading out loud to each other. Something that shows what she's accomplished at the end of the day....how many pages, or chapters, or how many rows or projects. She'll feel like she has something to show for her time. That's very satisfying.

Her mother won't let them start Harry Potter until they are 11. She figures that's the way they were designed to be read and that the kids will be emotionally ready at that point. She's a teacher, so I trust her call on that one.

The kid is VERY interested in knitting as I am always knitting or crocheting around them. I just don't think she is exactly that coordinated yet. I remember trying to learn when I was young and it was very frustrating. I figure she needs another couple of years before we tackle knitting. I did get her a latch hook kit tonight as well as a beginner's needlepoint kit (designed for 6+ years old). I also picked up some pipe cleaners (because you can play forever with pipe cleaners) and a mosaic suncatcher kit. Plus some Magic TreeHouse books. Hopefully that will help. Apparently my sister ran through all the things she had prepared today. It's going to be a long two weeks.

She would love a bungee jump or a skydiving, but the deal is she has to stay still.

I forgot about the pot holders. I have one of those kits around here. I'll add it to the pile and drop big hints about needing another pot holder. She LOVES to make things for others.

if she is in to learning head to your nearest bookstore and pick up workbooks for her next grade level... on the computer you can make word search puzzels using her name and her friends and familys names...search out homeschool worksheets on the computer to print out for her....also check out ...minute to win it games website for games she can do from her bed or chair...google is a wonderful thing...

She sounds like a neat little girl..

Yeah tell her, "we are going to make gifts for people this week.... etc..."

They're by far the most interesting of the free computer games at her age. It was started 8 years ago by a teaching dept in Uni of Co, and has been going since then. At that age my kids could keep happy for a good hour on it each day. I used to use it with my kindergarten students, and they all had fun, and it would help the wigglers as much as the sitters.
