How to keep chickens from roosting on waterer?

I have a five gallon aluminum waterer that I can't keep my chickens off of.

Any ideas on what I could do or build to keep them off? Thanks much

You can tie a funnel to the top, think the hat on the tin man - or, you can put the waterer inside a box laying on its side - so there is a "roof" above the waterer so there isn't room to fly up and sit on it!. Or, hang some object above the waterer - like a garbag can lid, etc. Or, make a cone out of chicken wire and put it on top. All of this is a pain and makes your chicken chores a little more complicated.

There are some pretty cool waterers on this site made from plastic pipe that would solve the problem, too,
