how to keep my water heated

question. Can I use a fish heater in my 10 gallon chicken water?

Good question. I'm not sure it would be hot enough.
I have heard of some people using a a stock tank heater like they sell at Tractor Supply but I don't know what the size and kind of container they were trying to heat .

My recommendation is DON'T. Fish tank heaters will burn out quickly, don't shut off automatically, and don't work well if the water gets low. My advice is to get a stock tank deicer. They last forever, automatically shut off when the temp gets above freezing, have a thick heavy duty cord, and most are safe for plastic. This is the one I used in a five gallon horizontal nipple waterer and LOVED it. Seriously, don't use an aquarium heater unless you have one to kill.

The Water Heaters have a nice 3 gal water space and all you need is electricity. I hang it in the coop, birds get room temp water and lasts almost a week for 9 birds. Works great. During the non-cold months, I use the 3 gal hanging waterer with the 4 nipples. They both are great and sturdy.

Aquarium heaters do shut of when they reach the desired temperature and turn on when the water goes below the temperature.

Many do, but as an avid aquarist who had used many a heater my opinion is that they are poorly suited fit for that purpose. I prefer stock tank, bucket or birdbath heaters for this application

If it were me, I would go with that.
