How to keep waterers from leaking over the edge?

I like hanging the feed, swings about and makes less mess but for water is there any benefit over placing it on a couple of bricks?
I keep my waterer's raised but water is heavy so no need to hang it unless I'm missing an advantage doing so?

Shame the seal got busted. Have you thought about horizontal nipple waterers? Most people use 5 Gallon containers or bigger, I've used a 1 gallon container which is plenty - the only tricky thing is finding a 1 gallon container that has a really strong casing, like a plastic watering can. Using a cola bottle is far too flimsy but if you can find the right container it's just a matter of predrilling it and screwing the nipples in with a drop of glue.

They are the easiest waterers to keep clean, don't make a mess and are cheap.

The only reason I was hanging it is because when we moved into our house the coop was already here, and the waterer was hanging :) And since we’re newbies we kept doing it how they’d done it.

Hmm...what type of waterer is it? I’ve had this issue at times but usually, it’s because the ground isn’t perfectly even...
What is the brand?
I hope you figure this out! 😊
I agree, there are waterers designed for hanging
This seems like an odd question but I wonder if I’m doing something wrong. Every waterer that I’ve tried leaks over the edge. Is there something I could do to prevent so much water from coming out into the tray at one time?
You have to have vacuum and they should put this in instructions. After filling waterer and ensuring its level, loosen the lid quite a bit as it begins filling. then tighten it back up. This creates the vacuum and it should not continue to over flow.

You need to put the part of the waterer that has the opening on the lowest end on the ground. This will fill the quickest and then stop the water from continuing to flow. Hope this helps. We went through the same thing. Now the water stays in and doesn’t leak out.

Yes, it needs to be level, or with the opening on the slightly lower side.
Also, if it's a five gallon metal waterer, the handle isn't sturdy enough to carry that weight. When the seal fails at the top under the handle, it will leak. You can try silicone sealer to fix that, and then don't carry it by that handle.
