How to prevent an aggressive cockerel

I've only had 60-plus years of experience with backyard poultry, but I never heard of getting a rooster to change if he's inclined to be a "fighter." Jersey Giants tend to be a gentle breed, though; my brother bred them for years and then I took them, and we never had an aggressive one. I don't believe you said what breed or breeds Asparagus represented, but some breeds are just more prone to aggressive males than others, so I'd guess your problem was genetic and your Giant will be fine. I understand your wariness; they're big guys and it would be almost like being flogged by a turkey. I'm guessing you won't have to find out, though, so try to trust him.

Thanks. Asparagus is a Cuckoo Maran

I had a beautiful blue copper marans that was raised byna nice lady and her 3 year old son.

Brought him home and had him for an entire winter. In the spring he decided that my 7yr. Old daughter was some variety of a threat/problem and attacked her. There was not any stopping him. Then he started to attack everyone and even the fence when my daughter was there.

I found the perfect cure! Mexican neighbors and tamales!

Got a new blue guy now!

He went for me today. No I wasnt acting nervous around him or anything, I pretty much forgot he was there. I put some feed down and turned around and just saw him quickly coming at me. He stopped right next to my leg when I turned around. I didn't jump, didn't move and I didn't shout. I just calmly walked directly towards him and then he ran off. I purposely walked in his path a few times after that and he moved each time. I'm not going to fuss about him too much as he didn't go psychical. But if he does flap at me then thats it. I would never feel comfortable around him after that, so hopefully he wont blow it. He maybes did it because I havent been up in a few days so hes enjoyed being the boss.

If you're bringing food, I would think it's pretty ok for him to come up and check it out, then call to the girls...my roo does that all the time. Just stay cool. ;-)

Wondering if my newly aggressive rooster thinks of me as a threat to his hens since I dusted them? He's been fine for close to two years. Maybe I'll stick him in a box next time I dust so he doesn't witness it. He's still having a go at me once in a while, although I'm trying to be big and vigilant.
