I have one macho rooster and a couple little bantam roosters that have all but plucked all the feathers from the back of my hens’ heads when they’ve mated. It doesn’t seem to bother the girls and they’re not being pecked at by other hens, so should I just let it be? Is there something I can do to help protect their heads?

Separate the roosters into separate areas leaving only one on the main flock. Every rooster should have their own flock (if your just try to get rid of the roosters then you don’t need to get them their own flock). Everyone has very slightly different views on how many hens to a rooster. What I see most though is 8-9 hens to 1 rooster. I hope this helps :)

I have this same issue, however two small bantam hens to 1 mean bantam rooster and 1 silky rooster. 2 to 2 and the one hen literally has no feathers on her little head

I have a rooster that is only choosing to overmate with one female . He has his choice of 10. What is there to protect the head from being pecked and plucked?
Did you ever find a solution for this? We have one girl that is a favorite and she is very submissive. They have pulled all her head feathers out. 😞

I have used a liquid called Pick No More after the wound has healed. You can get it on Amazon. Here is the link. https://amzn.to/3VWVbKw

I will separate and treat until she is completely better and I use Vetericyn for this. Here is the link.

Then when I release her out with the flock I apply liberally the Pick No More. It has been very effective for me, tbh.

Saddles for the back.

This is a very old thread so the OP will probably not respond. I had a rooster that scalped a hen. No more rooster. This is just flat-out unacceptable behavior.
