Hello all!

I was curious if anyone has dealt with getting rid of Bermuda Grass without spraying it with chemicals? Of course there is the obvious of digging it up, which I may attempt tomorrow with my Fiskars 3 Claw Garden Weeder (7880). It does wonders with my dandelions and really grabs a hold of the root and pulls it out. As for Bermuda Grass I'm curious how it'll work...I'll report back on that.

Anyhow, I'm all ears :)

It's taking over EVERYTHING. It's worse than dandelions. The Bermuda Grass is all around my pool area and is killing everything in its path. The root system is a nightmare running very deep compared to other grass weeds.

I am fighting the same battle. I loosen the soil and roots with a pitchfork and remove every last bit of root I can. The parts you miss will re-sprout and then you repeat. And repeat. And repeat....

I haven't tried it but there is a product called WOW! Supreme Pre-Emergent Weed Control & Lawn Fertilizer. Its for organic gardening and they say it works against a number of weeds including Bermuda grass but it only works when the plants are germinating. They say its pet safe but I would still say keep the birds away at least until its had time to work its way into the soil from watering and time. Birds are not the same as a dog or cat and might peck at the bits, and even if its safe in smaller amounts I would think that poultry eating it might not do so well but that is just my guess. I remember thinking it might be a nice product but like I said I haven't tried it so I can't say if it will work or not. There is still the main issue of getting rid of the older weeds as this only works for seedlings if I understand them correctly.

yes, it only works to prevent seeds from germinating (sprouting) and is sprayed over the whole lawn. I believe that's what the greeny-blue stuff you see on people's yards in the fall/winter.
