Hi @MamaSug welcome to BYC.
Can you explain why you want to separate the cockerel from his sister?
Imo its quit mean to put a chicken in a cage for a long time. If you can’t keep him , you could consider to give him away for free through Craig's list asap.
Good morning, and welcome to BYC. Separation of flock mates can cause anxiety/complaining, but they eventually adjust.
You might post in our Managing your Flock forums for more help with this... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/managing-your-flock.2/ Good luck! Also might be worth mentioning that I have tried putting the pair with my RIR's and Teddybudz before but they had gotten out of their caged area the next morning and were nearly scalped to death by the others. (pecked bad to the bone on their heads and beaks) I had to make a drive out to the local vet clinic to get Underwood's Horse Medicine to heal them up and tried my best to keep them seperate during the healing process but then - to make matters worst - they both started having bloody stools...the tell-tale sign of Cocci, so then I put them back together so that they could support/encourage each others regular eating/drinking habits, went to the feed store and bought a gallon of Corid 9.6% that I just finished up medicating their drinking water with for 5 days 2 days ago and they seem to be alright now but yeah...Definitely wasn't expecting this much trouble! Now gotta figure out how to successfully seperate them all over again
I was actually planning to cull him for dinner rather than give him away since he's turning into quite the meanie but every time I try to seperate him from Baby G, she stresses out and calls/cries for him![]()
