Okay, since my original thread ended up a comletely different direction than what it started, I decided to just start a new one. I am getting 2 one year old turkeys from a friend that doesn't want them anymore, but doesn't know anything about them. I've established the breeds as Royal Palm and Bourbon Red. Now my question is how do I sex them? I had various opinions on my other thread. I would like to breed them, but need know if they need a boyfriend or girlfriend, lol!

Thanks!

you look at them , at a year old you can tell,if they are the same birds posted at the other site they are both hens!!!

Males will have longer snoods that they can retract and let down. Only males gobble. Hens have a little strip of feathers going up the back of their head. Some pics would help. Needless to say, if you get an egg, its a hen LOL

They are both hens! I caught the bourbon red laying an egg last night and then found another egg in the coop this morning. I figured the royal palm was a hen, but the bourbon red really threw me...I thought for sure that it was a Tom!
Nice to know for sure, it will make craigslisting them easier

definately hens, a royal palm tom will have black laceing over most all his body, hens just on the lower back , wings, and tail like yours
