Looking to make hard boiled, STEAMED eggs and not sure how to do it or what all i need??? I saw a video online that used what looked sorta like a double boiler with a regular pot, and then another put that fit inside of that and had holes in the bottom. What is that kind of pot called???

I know one could also use a little steamer basket. I'd like to be able to steam a dozen or so at a time.

As you can tell, I am not a cooking aficionado!! But I'd like to try the steaming method to make hard boiled eggs if anyone knows how.

Thanks!

I ate three hard boiled eggs today, they were great, but I have'nt a clue what a steamed egg is.

Have you tried googling " steamed eggs"? I did, and got far more answers than I can post.

Funny, I just experimented with this today after my mother told me about an article she read on steaming vs boiling. She couldn't remember how long to steam them so I looked around and found a couple of different articles. The first one steamed them for 20 minutes, the second one steamed for 10. I tried both ways, here are the results...

6 eggs steamed for 20 minutes = 3 with cracked shells, 2 had their innards coming out (the chickens got to enjoy those

6 eggs steamed for 10 minutes = 6 perfect looking eggs...

All of them peeled easily, with no membrane sticking to the whites...

And all of them were beautifully cooked through. The yolks were soft, but done (they made terrific egg salad!)...

If you like your yolks cooked hard you might want to add a couple of minutes to the steaming time, but I would not go as far as 20 minutes, maybe 15 at the most.

I forgot to add the link to the page I read about steaming... http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/777314

WOW! I must try this! Those yolks are done just like I love them.

I wish I could find the exact article my mom read, but she said the reason it's hard to peel fresh eggs that have been boiled is because the shells are so porous, and when you have the eggs down in the water the pores in the shells cause the membrane to stick to the egg white.... or something like that.

I don't know the science, but I now know that steaming works better for fresh eggs!
