How to stop Chicken(s) eating eggs

Thanks everyone. I will keep in mind the fake egg, but after giving them more oyster shell, it's been ok for a few days. I didn't think I needed to provide this group with oyster shell now that they are on layer feed....

Hi Linda Marie,

I just found your thread here. How's the oyster shell helping these days?

I had some new chicks added to the flock this year and some of them started eating the eggs. I don't know who is doing it or how many. They aren't really eating the shell but the yolk and white. I think partly because they are young and curious and partly because the summer has been so hot in Texas. I think also it's that I have one hen that lays soft shelled eggs, I think she's 4-5 years old.

I stopped it for a while by getting the eggs out early and adding a ceramic egg. However, today my soft shell egg was broken and eaten again. (not the shell)

I don't know. I suspect if we can get the eggs out earlier that's the easiest solution. What do you think?
