How to tell if Coturnix quail eggs are going to hatch?

Todays day 17 and I'm getting so anxious. I wish I could candle them. Is there any safe method to check and see if they're going to hatch. I've had some problems with the incubators temperature and humidity-piece of junk, got a new one now

so I'm nervous whether they'll hatch or not! Can I do the water test?! Or is it too soon?

You can float test them if you really need to. I'd give them until tomorrow night before I did anything...

Does it hurt them to do the float test?

As long as the egg isn't pipped it is fine. I would wait until tomorrow though...
