How to Worm your chickens.

I give my chickens cucumber once or twice a week. The seeds keep them worm free from my understanding, I haven't had any problems for almost a year.

When was your last fecal float?

Diatamaceous earth does work if your chickens have very few worms. But it won't if they are overloaded. SassySarah was just trying to be helpful.
Please provide your proof that DE work to get rid of worms. I provided mine that IT DOES NOT GET RID OF INTERNAL PARASITES... and on top of that, it has marginal capabilities of eliminating external parasites as well as being harmful to the respiratory system and the Earth!

I know SassySarah was just trying to help... and so am I! And I am not saying anything on here that I wouldn't say to a friend.

Show me the science the DE works to get rid of internal worms AND info to debunk my claim... I understand reason. What I don't understand is people hanging onto a theoretical claim that has clearly been PROVEN it doesn't work!

But we are all friends here... and sometimes friends have to agree to disagree... and if we cross paths in the future and you are trying to figure out how to get rid of worms because DE isn't working and we all want some natural miracle cure... I WON"T be the type to say I told you so. I will simply do my best to share what information I have. We are all here to help each other and our understanding changes throughout time.

This is no new debate. You can probably find hundreds of threads discussing exactly the same thing. And it will likely rage on as long as BYC continues to exist. The information is there. And we all have to do what we think is right for our flocks. Me, DE is not a part of my household!

The recommended dose in the original video was 2% which is the same amount that commercial feeds are allowed to include... they use it as an anti caking agent... not touting it as a wormer.

Best wishes all around!

Thanks! I won't use DE anymore. I will take you're advice and go with something that works. :highfive:Thank you so much for the help! And good luck with you're flock!:cd

Thanks for all the advice! So are you saying I should not worm my my chickens unless they are loaded with worms? Thank you GeeGi for the help also!

No problem! I also give my birds meats, breads, yogurt, pretty much everything I eat minus the chocolates, bubblegum and other junk food. I have only 1 who lays and she lays daily unless she is being pissy about something. Little miss attitude!
