For anyone that thinks chicken ate fireworks in the yard. We live in town and my son did pop some fireworks in the yard. My wife found our bantam roster laying in the flower bed very week and his head was laying down he also could not open his eyes. we love this little guy he was just leaning to crow and he was so cute. so this is what we did we took a medicine dropper and started giving him milk we gave him a lot of milk and about ten mils of pepto-bismol. He we did the milk and water all day it would fill him up and sometimes he would throw up some. his comb was black also when we found him. after hours of us giving fluieds and bringing him in and out of the house for keeping him cool. He started to open his eyes and listening to us if we walked bye him he would look at us. we let him rest in a box we made for him. he started having weird green stools we started just water for him at this point no more milk. bye late night he was standing and walking some but very weak!! we left him in box all night and bye morning he was ready to see his girls and would drink out of his bowl. But we noticed he sticks his hole beak in the water to drink. when we let the girls out this morning he ran to them and crowed. what a great sound!!! We watched him with the girls eat and scratch. and our rooster would try to eat but not open his mouth, like he has forgot our he is to weak still? we are at this point now and we are trying to save this little guy, bye the way his name is foghorn. this rooster was proubly minites from dying and we saved his life and our son prayed for him also. I hope this helps someone else that might have this problem I will re post and let u no how he does.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Oh, your poor baby! But I am glad to hear he is going better. You might try some activated charcoal on him or even a molasses flush on him today. Put about 1/4 molasses in a gallon of water. The entire flock can drink it too. Have them and him drink this for one full day. This will help flush all poisons out of his body. If you have any charcoal tablets or even the stuff for fish tanks, give him a tiny handful now and another tiny handful later today. Charcoal absorbs poisons in the body. I hope he makes a full recovery.

If he starts to get sicker, you can post this in our emergency section for more help...

Thank you for you post on this. Until now it never dawned on me to worry about fireworks
debris.

The kids in our neighborhood buy and use them throughout the year- shooting them off many hours straight for every real & imagined celebration.

It never occurred to me that chickens, pets etc. might find and eat the remains. I would think the smell of them would repulse animals.

thank you guys for your input!! Foghorn is makeing a great recovery he had trouble for two days eating bye him self. Now he is pecking right along with the others. But his mindset has changed a lot. But he will let us just pick him right up now . So that's great!! We did the molasses to the flock and there all doing well! Thank you guys for welcoming us to byc!! And the firework he ate was a half a blowed up blackcat! Thank u!!!
