Hey everybody! I am so excited to be here!

I am completely new and have not even started my coop! I don't have any chickens yet, I am a pre-planning kind of person, so I decided to join the community to see what I'm going to to be getting myself into!

I'm hoping on starting with golden sexlinks and plymouth rocks, but have also been dazzled by the sizzles and gorgeous easter eggs. I am 100% open to suggestions and advice! Since I am a beginner, I'm just looking to start with 3-5 hens; a small egg-harvesting operation in the suburbs. I decided to go with a A-Frame construction for stability and style, since I have some neighbors that are concerned with my coop becoming an eyesore.

I currently live in a suburban area, with enough room to give me hens some space, and any plans or designs you vets can give me would be much appreciated!

When I'm not talking to local livestock and poultry farmers (which has been my recent hobby) I paint and attend school where I study art :) When I'm not painting or studying, I spend my time with my husband and pup, either finding awesome trails to walk or awesome story lines to follow on Netflix.

Thank ya'll for having me! I look forward to getting to know this community

Have you checked out the Learning Center? Great place to start. Now you have me curious, what kind of pup? Lots of dog lovers on here.

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us.

This link may be helpful - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/getting-started-raising-chickens

As D/Diva mentions, you'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

Welcome to BYC

It sounds like you know what kind of chickens you want already. Chickens are fun to have and they even reward you with a gift every day or every other day in the form of fresh eggs. They follow us around eat bugs and anything else you decide to give them. They bond with us and us with them. They are funny to watch and when you least expect it you may have one come sit on your lap or get your attention in some way. They even announce when they reward you with a little proud song once they laid you a fresh egg.

I hope you enjoy your flock when you get them. Do you want chicks to start off with or do you want hens that are about to lay or are laying already?

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
