Hello Everybody~

DD's Bridal Shower was a success. Everything was beautiful. We had our first chicken casualty the other day. DH found a pile of feathers~ one of the buff orpington Nuggets ~ in the corner of the run. When we modified the goat pen into a second coop we couldn't build the run so they were temporarily enclosed by chain link fencing . Needless to say we feel terrible. Those poor things are STILL traumatized although yesterday they ventured out for a bit but stayed very close to the coop. DH is going to secure them this week. We think a stray cat or a fox is the culprit. Ugh :-(

Anyway...I hope all is well with everyone!

Thanks Sally. I knew we were taking big chances by not getting the run finished. Preparations for the shower, work, etc., kept DH from doing it. He only needs the cement so hopefully he'll get it done ASAP. I can't shake the guilt. BTW...I think I saw in an earlier post that you're re-doing your gardens. Towards the end of the summer, sometimes Home Depot & Lowes have those big metal carts full of perennials for $1 each. They're not the healthiest looking specimens but I've picked up quite a few in the past (when lucky enough to come across them anyway!) and they've done really well the following spring.

Im sorry for your loss :(
Somthing here has been trying to dig under the duck cage for he past couple of days..and has been bothering the rabbits. And my youngest hamburg chicks have been disappearing one by one

Oh wow sorry for all the losses. I am so freaked out by predators that I made my husband promise me to wire up the entire coop before I would let the girls in. I kept them in the house for three months because I just couldn't stand the idea of something eating them. Then ofcousre you get lax....and look at the other day with me and Ethel. I play this game of chance with nature.

I hope you catch or stop whatever is stealing your chicks coupe. Digging I always think dogs or foxes. In reality it could be anything though, skunk raccoon...etc etc

LS I would love to see a sale like that at HD...I went to lowes the other day thinking I might get a chance ...but they had nothing and HD still is selling at normal prices. If I can catch a nursery sale or something like that I am going to buy a ton and stock up .

Its 6am and I was woken up by frantic chickens around 5:30....it was a fox..he/she got all 4 of my young hamburgs..I dont know what happened to the other 3 but I know one was pulled through the fence...I cant find the other .

Hello Hudosn Valley, I miss you! I'm a graduate of the CIA in Hyde Park, and gosh how I miss the area!! So, in alterior motive to come back and visit (!), I also am looking for a home for my 21 week old Speckeld Sussex rooster, who is hitiing sexual maturity and is too much for our small flock. Looking for an amazing farm home where he can continue the line of this dual-purpose breed, or just walk around and make your land look lovely :) He was hand-raised from a day old, and is sociable and has a great personality...just, becoming that ROOSTER we were hoping he wouldn't be. He'd be a great 4H bird or show/stud bird, and is about 5# right now; the breed maxes at 7. Any thoughts?? I will drive him wherever he needs to go, and the Hudson Valley is where I'd love him to be!

If you check at local nurseries, you may find a sale section also. Sometimes its stuff that's lost its tag, but I usually find some treasures at the local garden store that I can't find at Lowes (though, I must admit that I do have quite a few plants from the Lowes sale rack in my garden).
