WOW that sounds like a great day! The black currant wine sounds delish! My DH would definitely try that apple vodka. Why didn't you like Adair or Stoutridge?? We went to the Wreath Fineries event last December. At the first stop they gave each couple a grapevine wreath and then each winery we visited gave out an ornament for the wreath. All of the wineries were beautifully decorated for the holidays; they all served food and everyone was so hospitable. We went with my daughter's finance's parents and several friends of theirs. We, too, piled into a mini van and had a designated driver for the day which was quite the necessity because after trying 4 or 5 different wines at each winery (we went to 10), we didn't realize how zonked we were! We had soooo much fun. My DH and I don't get out by ourselves often enough!!

Thank you, I have 12 chickens, 6 Rhode Island Reds they are all hens. I have 6 light brown leghorns 4 roosters and 2 hens. I have to many Roosters. My husband wants to kill them but I've had them since they were a couple of days old. I like to give them away. My hens are just starting to lay eggs, so small and cute. This is the first time having chickens!

Ooo~ raspberry wine! Dangerous. Was it wine or a port? Port is usually heavier and sweeter and more "desserty" Seems like a lot of wineries are getting creative with their flavors. I usually just stock up on the usual cab or merlot ~ I never really get to look around to see what's new. I'm always in a BIG HURRY. Where in relation to TSC is Shamrock Liquors? And RE: eggs. No time during the week but we do use them for breakfast on weekends and for cooking/baking. 3 out of the 4 eggs I cracked open were double yolkers last weekend. And one night last week I didn't know what to make for dinner. I had 2 doz. eggs and some bacon so I made quiche. Then I went out to the garden and picked a few tomatoes for a tomato salad. It was really nice to not have to go to the store!! I want to make a tomato frittata this weekend. I must be hungry...!

I know what you mean. I'd rather re-home them rather than kill them also. You can try posting a message on the other New York threads and see if anybody is interested. Try Craigslist too. Are there any farms nearby? We just started chicken keeping in March. We have 18...12 assorted hens, (only 7/12 are laying so far)....1 rooster and 5 little ones aka "The Nuggets" They're only 13 +/- weeks old so theyr'e not laying yet. Just a hint...we like pictures! :)

The black Currant is from Glorie...I love it. I think it was $20 for a dessert size bottle and I can't wait to open it. They had great descriptions of their wines and they had a pumpkin but it was sold out and they would be getting more soon. We plan to go back though because there was a sample of a semi sweet riesling my husband wants to go back for at benmarl. Adair was so hot that I ended up walking down the steps to go use the port a potty and never going back in. The five tasters that did taste actually hated the wines. My sister wanted to wash her mouth out from the two reds and my husband agreed. Basically no one liked the taste or the place. I am sure that some people might like it, but we ran into a couple at all the places and basically we all agreed. The taster also had zero knowledge of the wine but was very friendly. Stoutridge was interesting. Beautiful property and a place to just sit and relax on the front porch. The gentleman that owns the place is SO smart but he comes off kinda snarky and just rubbed everyone wrong. I think there was around 20 people tasting while he told us about the wines and no one bought a single bottle. I felt kind of bad but you didn't get to choose what five wines you tasted so ...you tasted things you might not want to buy in the first place and then when you asked about others he basically said I have description cards to let you know what it will be like. In general the place was beautiful the knowledge he shares was awesome but I just got turned off personally. I do have to say that he had a wine there that tasted like bruschetta or fresh salsa, I believe it was the Cabernet Franc. It is a place to go once for sure, twice if you find something you really like.

Do you like reds then? I am more of a white wine person but my husband fell in love with a red (he NEVER drinks red) over at Glorie...it was so shocking to me when he said he was buying some red wine. My girlfriend even raised her brow.

Welcome Diane, I have one confirmed rooster already up on the boards here for adoption. I would try a poster at the local TSC in your area.

Thank you that's a great idea, I'll have my daughter make one for me.

3 ducklings have hatched out today!!!
I havnt seen the fox in 2 days..but i have a feeling itll be back .
The other day,I had a hawk almost got one of my chickens. He grab her by the tail and she got away but she lost a lot of feathers. We had to wait until that evening before we realized that she was ok. Now I keep a better eye on them.
