I second the polar fleece. I bought some in the remnants bin at a craft shop for around $2 and it's been very useful for a number of chicken 'jackets' to help protect my girls.

Here is one of my hens, Willow, wearing a "Jacket" or "cape" while she was having a really bad molt (obviously!). I had to put it on her as the other hens liked to pull her pinfeathers off her back. It worked really well. It was soft and stretchy enough that it didn't cause abrasion of the new feathers coming in, the way my canvas saddles did on my other hens.




One for Ellisa's hen wouldn't need to be as long, probably.

Awww! That is so cute (not to mention a good idea for a lot of different applications as well). It doesn't look like she minds at all either.

I think it looks good--just a little moist down at the lower right, but overall pretty good. I have made some pretty good jackets out of an 8"X8" piece of polar fleece, and just cutting 2 wing slits about 2 inches long. It is stretchy and doesn't need hemming or elastic. You can just trim off any excess once it's on her. That would probably cover her wound. You could practice on an old T-shirt to get the size and wing slits positioned right.

Okay I will work on that area! I will try to make a saddle ... seems basic!
