Huge Egg! UPDATE: Photo of contents

I seem to recall reading somewhere the record for most yolks in one egg is nine. Yours though is the first quadruple yolker I've seen. Sure hope it didn't damage the hen!

The hen who layed this egg is a rescue from our friend's Perdue raising farm. He gets day old hatches and raises them for 8 weeks until they go to slaughter. He gave us one pullet to begin with, Lucky, (I posted pictures of her when we first got her) and 8 weeks later two more, a pullet and a cockrel. This egg came from the second pullet, Lady. She weighs about 12 lbs and she has only recently began to lay--this is probably only her 6th or 7th egg. She laid another this morning, but it was just the size of a small or medium, like her others before gargantua egg.

That's unbelievable!!!! So cool!! Just curious, what would have happened if that egg was fertilized & kept it to hatch? I'm new to all this & learning something every day.

From what I have gleaned, most eggs with more than one yolk won't make it to hatch. The egg shell isn't big enough for two full size chicks to grow sometimes one may live and one die, but most times both die.
