Humane Trapping of Predators... I Am Confused

Wow..70 of them just this year? Is that legal?

Yes very much so you can kill as many as you can find and it still does not make much of a dent in the population! The propert owner behind our place has contracted my hubby to kill them in exchange for hunting rights on his place and for me to be able to ride there (Horses) They loose a lot of calves to the coyotes and they are not cheap so predator control is a must.

I too believe it trapping humanly. I set the mouse trap so the spring gets the mouse just behind the head. That way it snaps the neck and no flopping around. Everything else I shoot it. You folks are really funny.

They are called pests for a reason. There is a time and place for everything. There is really no correct answer to this post. Each person, place, and pest is different, thus, different answers will apply to different situations. However, if you have to kill a pest; you should do it quickly...this in my opinion does NOT include drowning.

I agree!! Drowning is a cruel and twisted way to kill a living creature..

why do we call it being humane when humans are probably the epitome of evil. its humane to euthanize a animal that's crippled, but dear god no its a moral sin to euthanize a human suffering from cancer or some other aliment that would need to have a machine breathe for them and pump there blood for the rest of there miserable life.

cruelty and humane are made up human concepts humans piss and moan about all kinds of trivial things yet nature is more go with the flow yet we are supposed to be all that's good in the universe?

nzpouter- I thought of you the other night. It was 3am, and I woke to see my husband following something around our dark bedroom with a flashlight. I took a few seconds to realize what he was doing. He was following a mouse around! I INSTANTLY thought of you and how you stated "out of sight, out of mind". I thought to myself, great, that's what I get for bragging about how the mice never came back! Turns out, it was my daughter's pet mouse, Jaws, and he had escaped from his cage, all the way at the other end of the house. He somehow managed to bypass 4 dogs, and made his way to our room. ( In the dogs' defense, they were sleeping, lol) Anyway, just shows that some of the stuff that is said on these threads, I do take to heart. I have really considered alot of what has been said, and though I would not want to kill a predator, I'd think twice about relocating. Aside from the mice, we don't trap, so thankfully, shouldn't have to deal with that type of problem. (The skunk we re released was trapped by the neighbors.) Anyway, I thought it was funny, and thought I'd share.

This is a kinda ying & yang, zing & zang, ping & pong, love the earth post but I agree with you. God did give his creation, us, dominion over earth, every animal on the earth, fish of the sea, and the bird in the sky to do with as we please. But I do agree when the death of any animal is necessary, do it quickly and completely.

I do think that sometimes its REALLY more humane to just kill the animal HUMANELY.. then let them go in a different area.
When you relocate them they need to find a new sorce of food and water(talk about terror and stress).. and will most likely HAVE to fight for territory.. most likely they will just be killed by fighting or die of starvation/lack of water...
Thats a hard way to die...
I'd rather see them just put down humanely.. Just my opinion..
But not to the extent of killing 70 of them in one year..

this and we have folks around here who relocate and as quick as they do a different type trap has to be used to re catch the animal so it can be dispatched by friends and family of mine relocated preds are dispatched all summer long here
