Humidity problem

Have one chick still trying to hatch sinsc wed night. I can see the whole front of chick but membrane is dryed and stuck.have been intervening a little with warm water.help at a lost to get this chick out

If you're going to assist with the hatch, it's been long enough that you can justify. Proceed slowly, and stop if you see any blood. The most vulnerable area will be around the abdomen. Read the assisted hatch article by Sally Sunshine in Hatching 101. I recommend that you get the bathroom hot and steamy, and work in there. Is this the last one? You could take the incubator right in there so that you can put the baby back into the bator as needed between work sessions. While some folks say that you're not doing any favors to a chick when you assist with the hatch... b/c if it's not strong enough to hatch, then it's not strong enough to live. I see both sides of this issue, and while the hard nosed approach makes sense from a breeding stand point, the softer side of me says that if I'm incubating an egg, I owe that little life a reasonable effort for it to succeed.

Success no bleeds and chick is out whew dont wand to do that again very sressful...now he is in the bator taking a nap.and i beleive i will to...lol

I can just picture someone trying to tie that little cord.

LOL You don't tie the cord, you tie the floss/thread around the cord...tightly....then you cut the cord
How long can it take a chick to hatch...

From pip to zip it can take up to 24. (It can take over that, but I never let it.)

I totally agree...plus you have to think, with breeders/hatcheries they have some of the best, spot on equipment and I'm betting they deal with this issue a lot less because of optimum conditions and practices. Plus, I doubt a lot of them are as sensative as we are.
