hunting

They aren't chiggers, we have those in Alabama too.. They look like a tiny little tick sort of. The locals in Illinois call them turkey mites. And there bite itches about 10 times worse than any chigger bite I have ever had. And regular insect repellent doesn't work.

Oh, yeah. Hunting on a chicken forum. Who'd a thunk it?

Here's a buck the game warden dropped off for me to process. (It had been taken illegally near our place.)

I love hunting. I've started a number of kids out hunting, and I'm a hunter education instructor. Love bow, rifle and muzzleloader hunting. I guess my favorites are deer and turkey hunting. I live in northeast Kansas, so the hunting is good.

We bought the place we live on just for the hunting. Now I'm in the process of fixing up some facilities for my chickens. Labor of love.

We put out our deer stand on Thurdays and seen some tracks but nothing else. Put out my cheep trail cam at a crossing so hopefully I'll have some pics on Sunday. Hopefully this gal can get her second deer lol... Been hunting for over 5 years and only 1 deer which was a small 8 pointer

So jealous of all of your big brute you guys and gals have gotten!

WOW ivywoods! Those are deer of a lifetime. Too bad about the poached one. Your bow buck is awesome. I filled the freezer with a little six pointer last week. Now I am looking for this guy. This trailcm pic is him right under my treestand.

Stevo- He looks like a decent 8 point. We don't use trailcams. It's pretty much like waiting to see what shows up under the Christmas tree. We have does in our woods all summer with their babies, and the bucks generally don't even come around our place until the rut, then you never know what will come through. There are some good genetics around here, so it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Tink's 69 generally tends to help the odds of that.

The buck pictured that I shot with my bow only scored 153 4/8 but he weighed right at 200 pounds after being field dressed and freeze drying for a couple days. He was a huge bodied deer that was a real booger to get home.

.. Ivy and Stevo those are some nice racked bucks...

also Ladies, congrats on the bow kills..

Oh, my gosh. What a waste. My neighbor who farms quite a few acres found two buck locked together a few days ago, not far from our property. They were both big bucks. One was dead already, and the other ended up dying about 10 minutes after they got them apart.
What a shame.

I would have much rather had them come through our place (which I'm sure they would have) and had a crack at putting them in my freezer.

Nice pics.
You all shoot way to big of deer......lol

I generaly shoot the smallest one I can. Because i hunt so far back on the public hunting, farther then anyone else wants to walk. This way I dont have to rely on any one else to help me carry ot out. The short nose as I call them are yearlings they are back packable an oh so tender.
